Information

Founded in 1932 as Blackpool Girls' Choir, Encore Singers has evolved throughout the decades, proving  music and the joy of singing is highly important, no matter how young or old you are!

Our motto is --- "Music for EVERYONE"

So, in the 1930s a choir of schoolgirls under the expert direction of local music teacher Phyliss Dunkerly was created, reaching unimaginable heights and fame. They travelled all over the British Isles, performing at a variety of music festivals, including the prestigious Eisteddfod, Dublin Music Festival and the Royal Albert Hall.

In the summer of 1957, the choir was invited to take part in a music festival in Oslo. Quite an adventure for a group of girls!  Fast forward 70 years on and some of our current members have such fond memories of the whole experience. (As can be seen in the photo gallery, they won many awards over many years).

BUT OF COURSE, time stands still for no one, and as the girls became young women, they determined to continue as Blackpool Ladies Choir. Their fame never diminished and again sang all over Britain, entertaining a variety of audiences as well as raising money for many local and national charities.

On the retirement of some members and the then musical director the choir evolved again and in 2015 officially became known as ENCORE SINGERS.

With Kath Vaquer at the helm, the journey of this very special choir continues immense success and in fact goes from strength to strength. We are still an all female choir and sing an eclectic repertoire which keeps us on our toes and our vocals chords flexible! As a 2, 3 and 4 part singing group, we are able to sing anything from Beatles to Beethoven, Sondheim to Sibelius. Again, as our motto says, "MUSIC FOR EVERYONE" ----------  and long may our journey continue through many more decades!
